Brother St. Eloi had been a UA Canada member for more than 50 years and had served in various leadership roles including as UA International Representative and Director of Canadian Affairs. Established in 2005, after Brother St. Eloi’s death, the fund helps keep alive his vision—equal rights for all and affirmative action.
J. Russell St. Eloi UA Leadership Award
In addition, each year at the UA Canada National Apprenticeship Competition, a UA apprentice is given the $1,000 J. Russell St. Eloi UA Leadership Award. The winner is chosen by his or her peers in recognition of hard work and a commitment to the trade.
The UA believes that the youth of today are our future and as such is a major support of Skills Canada.
The next skills Canada event will be in Toronto June 4, 5, 6
Ever wonder what a Steamfitter does? Our members are some of the highest paid workers in Canada with Steamfitter-Pipefitter being the number one demand for trades workers in the energy sector in the next ten years and beyond.
Come to see our display and talk to our people to experience what other trades we represent and see what a Plumber, HVACR Technician, Welder, and Quality Control Technician does, and we’ll let you in on the kind of future you could have with our organization in one of these trades careers. We will also have an event that will give you an idea of what a Steamfitter-Pipefitter does, which will be part of the Skills Canada competition in the future. Come and see us at the UA Canada booth.

In an article in January’s UA Journal, Local 179’s leadership is described as “motivated and progressive, with an assertive Business Manager in Troy Knipple and a skilled Business Agent in Bill Peters. They are supported by an excellent team of agents and office professionals that ensure UA Local 179 operates efficiently and productively.” to read more click here.
